The north side of Chatham features Chatham Elementary, a school dedicated to helping the children in its community. The school's accreditation stems from a strong emphasis on its successful reading program. The program divides students into appropiate reading levels, permitting the weaker readers and stronger readers to work at their own speed. In addition, the school utilizes the Excelerated Reader and the SAXON Math computer programs to augment the school curriculum.

While a great elementary school, both school size and class size are expected to lower after the county redistricts the elementary school zones for the 2004-05 academic year.
