Averett University is the closest four-year program serving Chatham.
Founded in 1859, Averett began as a school for young women. Today it is a coeducational university that is among the oldest continually operating academic institutions in Virginia. Averett attained university status in July 2001. The university maintains a yearly enrollment of 2,800 students. Approximately 900 students are located at the main Danville campus with the difference located in the University's statewide GPS Program. |

The college provides quality credit and non-credit comprehensive higher education and workforce training programs and services, promoting individual, business, and community growth and development. DCC, founded in 1967, is governed by the State Board for Community Colleges. DCC is a two-year comprehensive community college offering certificates, diplomas, and associate degrees in more than 50 programs of study. |
