Founded in 1894, Chatham Hall is an all-girl boarding school on a beautiful 362-acre campus just east of Chatham's Main Street. The school's history and the lives of its students and teachers are closely intertwined with those of the Town. Students come from more than 20 states and 10 countries. Recent graduates have attended Princeton University, The College of William & Mary, University of Virginia, UNC-Chapel Hill, University of Richmond, Davidson College and Trinity University.
Chatham Hall offers a strong, student-led Honor Code, opportunities to select from more than 15 AP courses, and the independent-study Discovery Challenge program. The travel program provides art, music, and government-themed trips to cities such as New York, Boston, Chicago and Philadelphia. In addition, students and teachers participate in study and enrichment trips in countries such as Costa Rica, France, Spain, and Italy.
The world comes to Chatham Hall, too, in the form of visiting performers and speakers. Recent guests include internationally acclaimed women such as Mary Robinson, former president of Ireland, and U.N. human rights commissioner and Nobel Peace Prize Winner Shirin Ebadi. |

Chatham features the finest secondary male military boarding academy in the South. Founded in 1909, Hargrave Military Academy is located one block west of Chatham's Main Street. The Academy excels at preparing a student in critical mainstream academic skills, English and math, with further extensive preparation in the arts and sciences. Recent graduates are attending such schools as the University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, Vanderbilt, The Citadel, and the U.S. Naval Academy and the U.S. Military Academy.
Exposure to leadership, responsibility and moral values is experienced daily by Hargrave Cadets. Over 20 athletic programs offered. Modern sports venues include a 50m indoor pool, six lighted tennis courts, professional style ball field and lighted football field. The Academy also maintains nationally recognized Post-Graduate football and basketball programs.
Financial aid is offered, but no aid is offered until a student is accepted into the academy. Hargrave maintains an independent military program, which is NOT affiliated with the United States military. No military service is required at Hargrave.
