Take a break from the cookie-cutter accommodations of the corporate motel and hotel chains and enjoy a taste of Southern hospitality ... Chatham-style!

When sizeable events occur in the area (for example, Chatham Hall or Hargrave homecomings, graduations, school vacations, horseshows, or major swimming meets), our local accommodations will quickly fill up. On such occasions, additional lodgings may be found in the nearby communities of Gretna, Altavista/Hurt, and Danville. Henry Mitchell has compiled a useful list of these options on his extensive local information site:
The tradition of touring the countryside is as old as the horse-drawn coach. Travelers would find roadside inns to rest for the night and particularly valued those that could provide a clean bed and a hearty breakfast at a reasonable cost. The modern-day Bed and Breakfast (B&B) industry thrives today in large part because they provide an atmosphere of warmth and coziness that traditional hotels simply can't match. Since our B&B owners live on the same premises, they bring a different perspective to the job than someone who works a shift behind a hotel reception desk and then goes home to forget about the customers left behind.
At B&Bs, "customers" truly are guests, and we think it shows. We'll point out the best restaurants based on what you might have a taste for that day, point you to romantic spots, direct you to different points of interest, and much more. Our businesses grow as guests become regular visitors. All of these factors combine to make sure your stay is full of some great memories.
