Our Cherrystone reservoirs are being evaluated, as required, in accordance with Technical Release No. 210-60, Earth Dams and Reservoirs (USDA-NRCS, 2019). This directive requires our reservoirs to be evaluated as "High Hazard" dams, due to the potential impact a dam breach would cause to significant roads, railways, and populations living downstream in the event of a 1000 year rain event.  Both Cherrystone dams are structurally sound. However, the USDA-NRCS provided both direction and funding for the geotechnical study, and design of a rolled-concrete dam/spillway structure to satisfy the given definition of High Hazard dams. The pertinent documents are listed for your information.
