Police Department

The Town of Chatham maintains its own police department. Chatham crime is generally extremely low due to its well-trained and diligent police force. Town residents typically experience fast emergency response times under the direction of Chief Randy Lawson. Chatham officers generally reach all town locations within minutes.

In addition to excellent local police coverage, Pittsylvania County police and State police are also well represented. Chatham is the county seat of Pittsylvania County. The county maintains a court system, county jail, and their motor pool with Chatham's town limits. County police are always seen heading out of and returning to Chatham during all hours of the day. A local state police HQ is also based just north of Chatham.

Non-emergency questions and requests for the Chatham police should be made regular business hours, Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

If you have a water or sewer emergency after the normal business hours of Monday through Friday 9:00am-5:00pm, please call Pittsylvania County Dispatch at 434-432-7931.
