The Mayor of Chatham serves a two-year term. In addition to representing the Town at official occasions and in the various business contracts that are required for the daily operations of a town, the Mayor serves as a point of contact to ensure that the Will of the citizens is expressed in Town decision-making.
The Mayor leads Town Council meetings and serves as the tie breaking vote only in the event of an impasse. Men and women of different ethnicities, classes, and occupations have served faithfully as Chatham's Mayor.
There are six voting members on the Chatham Town Council. The Council serves staggered four-year terms with three members up for election every two years. Council members are not recognized by national political affiliation.
